Icerasy - Combined treatment of stomatitis

发布时间:2023-11-03

Feline stomatitis is an oral disease accompanied by severe pain, and about 0.7% to 10% of all cats are affected by this disease.

What is stomatitis?

Stomatitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes anywhere in the oral cavity, often referred to clinically as widespread, chronic, progressive inflammation of the oral mucous membranes.

Severe stomatitis can lead to eating difficulties, mental status changes and weight loss, seriously affecting the quality of life of cats, especially cats with caudal stomatitis have the greatest degree of impact.

Causes of feline stomatitis

Viruses: All bio-types of feline cup virus have the potential to cause feline stomatitis. However, we have only found that cup can induce acute feline stomatitis, and have not yet proven a link between chronic stomatitis in cats with prolonged treatment and feline cup virus.

Bacteria: Current studies have found an overall sensitivity to oral bacteria in feline stomatitis, and cats with caecal stomatitis have an abnormal inflammatory response to plaque formed by oral bacteria.

Clinical signs

Affected animals present with prolonged dysphagia, careful feeding, loss of appetite or anorexia, excessive salivation, halitosis, and sometimes significant damage at the skin-mucosal junction.

On clinical examination, the oral mucosa is flushed and swollen, and ulcers and scabs are found at the corners of the mouth, the gums are receding, and some animals have lingual inflammation, with the tongue coated with copious amounts of tongue moss. Various degrees of otitis, vulvovaginitis and onychomycosis may be seen, but rarely is there concomitant candidiasis of the gastrointestinal tract.

Judgemental basis

Determining whether a cat has stomatitis relies on visual inspection, and there are two important criteria.

First: inflammation extends beyond the gingiva and spreads to the alveolar mucosa and even the labial mucosa, which can be called alveolar mucositis or classified as anterior stomatitis (Rostral Stomatitis).

Second: Inflammation and pebbly growths in the posterior part of the mouth, lateral to the oropharynx and near the palatoglossal arch, may be termed Caudal Stomatitis. Caudal stomatitis is the most common and difficult to treat stomatitis in clinical practice.

In addition, cytology is sometimes used in the clinic to rule out eosinophilic granulomas (stomatitis itself is not as eosinophilic and is predominantly neutrophilic).

When a mass is found and a tumour is suspected, the diagnosis needs to be confirmed by histopathological examination.

Anterior stomatitis is less harmful than caudal stomatitis, and the degree of damage to the cat's oral cavity is less, and the oral cavity can be repaired with long-term use of Ekoti.

Caudal stomatitis will seriously affect the cat's health. After diagnosis of caudal stomatitis, the cat needs to be effectively treated by tooth extraction (full and half extraction) or carbon dioxide laser to cauterise the inflamed tissues, and at the same time, the cat can be treated with Icerasy to repair the oral cavity, and Hexia to alleviate the cat's discomfort after the surgery to achieve a better therapeutic effect.

Icerasy relieves the symptoms of stomatitis

Indications

Suitable for stomatitis and caudal stomatitis, improvement of the oral environment and restoration of the physiological condition of the oral mucosa after tooth extraction or carbon dioxide laser treatment, as well as the reduction of bad breath, inhibition of plaque and tartar formation, reduction of pain, and promotion of chewing.

Lactoferrin peptide is the main ingredient of Icerasy.

Lactoferrin peptide has been shown to have a positive effect on the treatment of stomatitis in cats.

The combination of lactoferrin peptide and piroxicam was used as an adjunctive treatment for feline lymphoplasmacytic gingivitis and stomatitis (LPGS) in a randomised, double-blind clinical trial of 13 cats with LPGS. Clinical signs of oral lesions were graded and scored to assess treatment outcomes.

CONCLUSION: Treatment using a combination of lactoferrin oral spray and oral piroxicam had positive results in cats with caudal stomatitis.

Lactoferrin peptides improve quality of life by reducing macrophage numbers, inhibiting inflammation, and ultimately improving oral lesions. The combination of Lactoferrin Oral Spray in combination with piroxicam is safe and can be used to reduce clinical signs in cats affected by LPGS (stomatitis), and extended dosing is recommended to improve results.

Advantages of Icerasy for stomatitis

The key ingredient, lactoferrin peptide, is effective in the treatment of stomatitis, especially caecal stomatitis, and the small molecule peptide is more easily absorbed;

Anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant;

Helps to quickly restore the physiological state of oral mucosa;

Can rapidly reduce bad breath, inhibit plaque and calculus, while improving the oral environment as a whole;

Give full play to antibacterial effect and immunostimulating activity;

Combined treatment of stomatitis with carbon dioxide laser

When feline stomatitis is diagnosed as feline caecal stomatitis, a combination of Ekuti with CO2 laser treatment is recommended.

Advantages of CO2 laser treatment for cats with stomatitis

In recent years, laser therapy has been increasingly applied to pets' oral diseases both at home and abroad, and CO2 laser has been widely used in veterinary clinics, such as excision of tumours on the pet's body surface, nasal dilatation, and removal of excessive keratinisation of the nasal head, etc. The advantages of CO2 laser treatment include: reduction of pain, reduction of bleeding, and reduction in the number of patients.

Treatment features: reduce pain, reduce bleeding, reduce swelling, reduce infection, generate scar tissue, faster recovery.

Treatment principle: Using carbon dioxide laser to vaporise, carbonize, coagulate and irradiate animal tissues to achieve the treatment purpose.

Carbon dioxide laser can be used to vaporise oral wounds after tooth extraction in cats, enabling rapid recovery of wounds in the cat's oral cavity;

Combined with Icerasy, the oral mucosa can be quickly restored to its normal physiological state after treatment;

Together with Hexia, it can also effectively relieve cats' pain after tooth extraction.

Relief of stomatitis pain

PEA is a naturally occurring fat substance in the body.

Icerasy - Combined treatment of stomatitis(图7)

PEA has been shown to bind to nuclear receptors (nuclear receptors) and release peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-alpha) to relieve chronic pain and inflammation.

PEA also inhibits mast cell activation and reduces the release of inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leukotrienes and prostaglandins, helping to reduce the stress response.

PEA has been studied for use in the following pain conditions:

toothache

Lumbago

Sciatic nerve pain

Osteoarthritis

Fibromyalgia

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Peripheral Neuropathy-Diabetic Neuropathy & Chemotherapy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy

Neuropathic pain - stroke related & multiple sclerosis

Chronic pelvic & vaginal pain

Neuralgia following viral skin problems

Advantages of Hexia

PEA is a naturally occurring substance in animals and is safe to use;

It is safe to use and can be used to relieve pain in cats after a full mouth extraction;

Unlike non-steroidal new painkillers, long-term use will not harm the gastrointestinal mucosa of pets, mainly through the regulation of the nervous system to relieve pain.

Prevent stomatitis and take care of your pet's oral health

Pay attention to oral hygiene

Plaque and calculus may lead to stomatitis, so daily care of the mouth and teeth has a positive effect on the prevention of stomatitis. It is recommended to cultivate the habit of brushing the cat's teeth, and to clean the teeth regularly or use oral cleaning agents.

Choosing a hypoallergenic diet

Choose hypoallergenic prescription food or select food based on the results of allergen testing. In addition, it is recommended to use hypoallergenic utensils such as porcelain bowls and metal bowls and avoid plastic bowls.
